‘McArthur’s Store’ Exhibition Opening

Fantastic to see so many people on our opening weekend. So privileged to be showing these wonderful works from Alastair Cook’s season as artist in residence on Dunbar’s old harbour, thanks to the generous support of the Harbour Trust and Bob the Harbour Master. A wonderful way to celebrate our first season of North Light with all those special people we’ve had the pleasure of working with.  Showing at Dunbar Town House for six weeks till January 10th 2013.

North Light Arts

As part of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012, North Light Arts shone a spotlight on the creativity and the continuing inspiration of the Scottish fishing town of Dunbar in East Lothian, a beautiful and flourishing location. Over the summer, we have had 5 key artists resident in our Beach Hut, each for a week long residency. Our artist in residence Alastair Cook has been working with the rhythms of the season using wet plate collodion, a photographic process from 1851, along with Super8 and 120 film.

End of season celebration

End of Season Celebration

A wonderfully warm reception on McArhur’s quayside; and a big thank you is due to all who have created, taken part in and supported North Light over this amazing first season. It has been a hugely successful and illuminating time in the landscapes of Dunbar thanks to the art works, installations and performances of over 26 visiting artists, who have celebrated the wonderful and diverse landscapes of Dunbar and the John Muir Way with many thousands of visitors. Special thanks go to our artist in residence Alastair Cook whose presence and engaging practice has been truly inspirational.

There are of course four season in a year and we are already looking forward to seeing the fruits of Alastair’s residency in a major solo show at The Town House, Dunbar, opening on 30Nov
