Dunbar and John Muir: at the heart of our projects is Dunbar, a traditional Scottish fishing town with a working harbour just twenty minutes from Edinburgh. Caught between the Lammermuirs and the edge of the North Sea, Dunbar benefits from a northerly aspect with huge wind-swept skies and bright clear north light.
Dunbar is the beginning of the John Muir Way that runs the length of the county: a strip of reclaimed wild footpath edging the sea with distinct areas of wetland habitat and world-class geology. This rich, beautiful and diverse landscape is still largely unknown as the land that inspired John Muir’s writing on conservation of the natural environment and his work founding America’s National Parks.
