On Sunday 29July Northlight will launch a new initiative on the quay side in Dunbar: ‘Filmscape’ is a daily programme of short films to be shown in our ‘mini cinema’ in The Beach Hut on Victoria Harbour: a filmic celebration of the sea, land and place; ‘Filmscape’ has been curated by Filmpoem.comfor Northlight.
Filmscape is a filmic celebration of the sea, land and place curated by Filmpoem to draw on North Light’s powerful theme of landscape. The Filmscape programme concentrates on the idea that a landscape is a cultural image, a visual way of representing, structuring or symbolising our surroundings.
Filmscape also focuses on the use of film, how we now master and cut film in new ways using digital technology. It is not about the lo-fi, but about the ethereal qualities of analogue technologies in tandem with digital editing and cutting edge sound techniques. Amongst others, Filmscape features the work of James William Norton, Swoon, Sam Spreckley, Emma Osbourn, David Fyans and artist in residence Alastair Cook and North Light artist Karen Gabbitas.
From Sunday 29th August until Friday 3rd August, a two hour loop of short films (each under 10 minutes) will play from 12pm until 4pm in The Beach Hut on Victoria harbour. At 4pm each day a feature (30 minutes) will be screened, showcasing artists work or particular pieces; this will be different each day.
Check the website for the programme or drop by our Artist in Residence at McArthur’s Store or pass by The Beach Hut on Victoria Harbour to pick one up: we are also on facebook.
Filmscape: Sunday 29th July to Friday 3rd August inclusive.
