North Light Spring Up-date

We’ve had a really busy time over the last two months planning, fundraising and meeting lots of people.

We illustrated the aims and ambitions of this years North Light season in a PowerPoint presentation at an open meeting in February -  lots of interest and support from the community who filled the room and were really enthusiastic about the potential of the project.

Many of our invited artists travelled from across Scotland and Europe to spend a day with us in Dunbar. The research day was hosted at the new and very beautiful Town House Museum, and the room was buzzing as the 21 artist discussed their work in a PP presentation, exchanging ideas with the other artists and local guests. A short walk along the John Muir Way, led by the Countryside Ranger Tara, followed part of the route which will emerge as the Kittiwake arts trail this summer.

The castle is once more alive with their kittiwake-kittiwake cries

We are currently planning the Kittiwake workshops – a number of artists will be working with primary school and community groups to make Kittiwake markers for the trail this summer

North Light Season

North Light will be a season of inter-linked cross art form happenings taking place in and around Dunbar in 2012. Each developing the idea of North Light with a sensitivity and light touch to our environment and sustainability.

North Light will build on the successes of Home Thoughts From Abroad (Homecoming Scotland) 2009, Taking a Line… with Knitting the Harbour in 2010, The Herring Road Celebration (Lost Landscapes) and One Touch of Nature…Makes all Kin at JMB in 2011; It is an ambitious initiative with a rolling programme which places Dunbar and the John Muir Way at the heart of creative engagements, to highlight the unique environment of the locality and it’s enduring capacity to inspire.

The programme will include site specific contemporary arts installations and performance, a Kittiwake Sculpture Hunt and Home Grown Celebrations, torchlight performances, music rhyme and song, workshops and art history lectures: unique happenings each developing the theme of North Light
